Then around 1619, VOC troops under the command of Jan Pieterzoon Coen destroyed Jayakarta and its name was changed back to Batavia.

In 1635, Batavia's territory extended to the west bank of the Ciliwung River. Then it was designed with a Dutch-style building, and also equipped with a canal that separated several existing blocks. Then in 1650 after all the construction was completed, Batavia functioned as the VOC headquarters in the East Indies.

The history of Kota Tua does not stop there, when during the World War II era where it was still under Japanese colonial rule, Batavia changed its name back to Jakarta.
