Monas stands for National Monument, Monas is one of the most famous symbolic monuments in Indonesia. Not only in Indonesia, the monas monument is also one of the well-known landscapes in all other countries. This monument area is a favorite tourist and recreational spot in Jakarta, as well as for educational and historical tourism.
The Monas Monument is a monument in the form of an obelisk monument, built by order of the first president of the Republic of Indonesia, Ir. Soekarno. Its construction began on August 17, 1961 and was officially opened to the public on July 12, 1975.
Monas or National Monument has an area of 80 hectares. This area has gone through several name changes. Initially it was called Gambir field, then changed its name to Ikeda field, Merdeka field, Monas field, and finally became known as Monas Park.
At the top of this monument there is a crown in the shape of a flame or a burning torch. This flame was originally coated with gold weighing 35 kg. Around 28 kg of the total gold was a donation from Teuku Markam, a well-known Acehnese entrepreneur at that time.
In 1995, the top of this monument was again covered with gold so that the total weight of gold at the top of this monument reached 50 kg. This flame symbolizes a fire that never goes out, a symbol of the spirit of the Indonesian nation that will never subside with time.

1. Monas with a Green City Park
Around the monument there are open areas and green city parks that are neatly arranged. The atmosphere is green and shady, perfect for relaxing with family here. Not only parks, around the area there are also jogging tracks and areas for exercising.
2. Sculpture at Monas
In some places, there are also beautiful works of art in the form of statues, as well as several monuments with historical records. Before entering the monument, you can walk around first to enjoy the city park and also the sculptures around this monument area.
3. Dancing Fountain at monas
There is also a dancing fountain show at Monas Jakarta. Usually this show is done on Saturday night and Sunday night. There are two show hours, at 19.30 and 20.30 WIB. The duration of each performance session is approximately 30 minutes.
4. Monas with Indonesian Historical Reliefs
There are reliefs depicting Indonesian history in every corner of the outer courtyard of the national monument. These reliefs are arranged chronologically by time. Starting from the northeast corner, there are reliefs depicting the glory of the archipelago in the form of the history of the Majapahit and Singhasari kingdoms. You can follow it clockwise, which depicts colonial eras, national resistance, and also reliefs of Indonesian national heroes.
5. National History Museum
The National History Museum is located at the base of the national monument, approximately 3 meters in depth from the ground. The National History Museum has an area of 80×80 square meters, and can accommodate 500 visitors. There are approximately 51 dioramas showing the history of the archipelago, starting from prehistoric times, past archipelago empires, European colonial colonialism, the resistance of ancient heroes against Dutch colonialism and the VOC, national movements, Japanese colonialism, Indonesian independence, up to the New Order era.
6. The Independence Room at Monas
The amphitheater of the independence hall is in the cup of the monument. To get here, you can use the spiral staircase from the south and north side doors. In the independence room, the original text of the proclamation of Indonesian independence is stored. The manuscript is kept in a glass case inside a gilded gate. On the south side there is a statue of Garuda Pancasila. This national symbol statue is made of bronze weighing 3.5 tons, and plated with gold.
On the east side, there is an inscription of the proclamation of independence in bronze letters. Initially, the red and white heritage flag was kept here which was hoisted on August 17, 1945. But due to age, the heritage flag is no longer displayed here.
7. Monas Peak Court
You can go up to the top of Monas via the elevator on the south side. The National Monument peak court measures 11×11 meters, and can accommodate 50 people. At this peak there are also several binoculars that you can use to see the view of the city of Jakarta from a height.
8. Monas Culinary Area
In the Lenggang area of Jakarta, you can enjoy various Indonesian culinary offerings. The types are also quite diverse, starting from lead rice, soto Betawi, Madura satay, Taliwang chicken, and so on.
