Melasti is a Balinese Hindu ritual ceremony that aims to cleanse the inner and outer human being (Bhuana Alit) and nature (Bhuana Agung), by washing away all leteh by using Tirtha Amertha.

The Melasti ceremony is a purification ceremony for humans and the earth as well as a ceremonial tool to go to the sea as a symbol of inner and outer purification before entering Nyepi Day. At Melasti Beach, this activity is very exotic and amazing where the people parade down the circular cliff to the beach so it looks very amazing and exotic which can make visitors amazed

The purpose of the Melasti ritual is:

  1. Build an attitude of life to always strengthen sraddha bhakti
  2. Arouse the spiritual spirit to try to eliminate Laraning Jagat (Social care)
  3. Eliminate the negative forces that exist in humans
  4. Creating a sustainable nature
  5. Obey the guidance of the Gods who are the holy rays of God.
The procedures for carrying out the Melasti ritual are: procession of the convoy, ritual cleansing procession in front of the entrance to the Segara temple, followed by worship at the linggih (place) that is already available, reciting prayers by the Pandita, mekobok, praying together and offering Prani offerings on in the afternoon. The offerings used in the Melasti ritual are:

Apart from that there are also ritual facilities such as: Dangsil, Tawang Studio, Surya Studio and Sanggah Cucuk, Jempana, Umbul-Umbul and Pangawin, Flowers, Fruits, Food in the form of rice, side dishes, snacks and others, Water , Fire and Bija. The values contained in the Melasti ritual include religious values, namely increasing and strengthening the faith and beliefs of Hindus in order to foster piety.

Social value, namely fostering a sense of togetherness among Hindus in realizing worship facilities, especially in relation to the sacredization and functioning of the symbols made.
